Knowing how to see the bright side of life, as the song says, is the best way to enjoy our time. Being at home can be great for those with a homely soul, but just in case your soul needs a break, here are some tips to make the most of this time.
Take care of yourself
How long has it been since you made time for yourself? Close your eyes and visualize yourself taking a relaxing bath or shower (using the right amount of water, you know, to take care of the environment), with chillout music and candles around you. Don't rush... Are you seduced by the idea?
Give your feet an extra pampering, remove the corns, take care of your cuticles, hydrate them well and give them a good massage, polish your nails if you want. Our feet make us fly high; they deserve special care. Besides, soon, the weather will warm up and we'll leave behind the closed toe shoes...
How about a manicure? Cut and file your nails just the way you like it, polish them gently to give them natural shine, remove the cuticles and moisturize with almond oil. Do it relaxed and with love, enjoying both the process and the result.
Pamper your hair, let it rest from the iron, dryer or curling iron and make a mask. It's okay if you don't have any specific product in hand, you can make it with olive oil (coconut or almond oil...), the purer the better. Apply it from your mid lengths to ends if your hair is long, or if you prefer, spread it carefully all over your hair and scalp and massage it so that it nourishes the hair fibres well. Put your hair up in a bun or with a towel and after 30' or even 1h, wash it thoroughly to remove the oil. Your hair will look brighter and shinier, it will be more flexible and hydrated, which will prevent it from breaking easily.
Exfoliate your face and body with products suited to each area, a facial scrub and sisal glove will be enough. Moisturize your skin well with a light massage. Enjoy a soft skin.
Catch up with your favourite books and TV shows
I'm sure you have a long list of books to read, or maybe you’ve already started reading one. It's time to go back to them and enjoy them. We may not be able to leave the house, but our mind and imagination have no limits. You could also catch up with the latest digital publications, many magazines offer their online editions for free this month.
Do the same with the tv shows you’ve always wanted to watch but never have time to do it. You could go back to the classics: The Sopranos, Six Meters Under, Doctor in Alaska, or you could even rewatch your favorite show, Sex and the City ;)
Time to tidy up
Your closet, your bedroom, your office, the bathroom... Even the kitchen! Apply the Marie Kondo philosophy and only keep what you really use or what makes you happy. Donate what you no longer need or will not take advantage of, you will feel better. When everything is back to normal you can contact NGO's: in the case of clothes, well-known brands collect the clothes you don't need at home and dedicate them to social purposes. It is true that we end up using what we see, not everything we have. In the end we may not need so many things.
Tidy up your mind as well, think about what you would like to do, hobbies you would like to practice, organizations with which to collaborate... Soon you will be able to do all of it and focus the time you have on what you really like. Call those friends you haven't seen for a long time and who really count, talk to your parents, your family... Forget text messages and use your phone, to feel the warmth of another voice.
Enjoy cooking
Now that you have more time, reuse your old recipes, those that you enjoy just thinking about them and that you never had time to cook. Go back to your childhood with the recipes that your mother or grandmother used to make for you when you were little... Croquettes, broth, cakes... Anything goes, but don’t forget traditional ingredients that make you feel good inside and out. If you lack inspiration or can’t find the recipe, Youtube or Instagram will surely help you.
Stay fit
It's true that we can't leave the house, but who said we can’t work out? On social media you will find routines to work out at home. Use your imagination: two water bottles can be great weights. And if working out doesn't excite you, how about some dancing, listen to your favourite music and give it a go. Dancing is an excellent cardiovascular exercise and can be done alone, with your partner, with your family...
We hope we have given you ideas to enjoy this time at home. Take care of yourself, everything will get better. #stayathome
